Graph Paper and Water
11" x 8.5"
Here we are interested in how something can be quiet and explosive at the same time. A lone drop of water disrupts and radically reconfigures the grid, producing an expansive, fractal-like shape. For us, it is crucial that this shape is constituted by the ink displaced by the water. Like the clock, it starts with an experience that is familiar (doubly so: graph paper itself is a common utilitarian object, while in a more abstract sense the grid can stand for the pre-given matrix of our ways of seeing) and within its very structure produces a new, intriguing possibility.
